Why Your Juice Fast (and other Cleanses) Didn’t Work As You Hoped

“I feel worse now than I did before doing the juice cleanse. Why do they work for everyone else and not for me?”

While it may seem like cleanses are a fail-proof strategy for healthier living, feeling worse afterward or seeing little to no change, is not uncommon. Cleanses and detoxes rarely work for anyone long-term. I always say: they are not the solution, they are not the answer, they are a strategy.

Let’s dig into the differences between popular detox and Real Cellular Healing – the process I use to help patients get the health results they want.

WHY DETOX IS NEEDED

Today’s environment is more toxic than ever before and it’s taking a toll on health. The WHO predicts that by 2020 chronic diseases will account for nearly three-quarters of all deaths worldwide.

The body is designed to naturally filter out and protect against bad bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. But there’s a limit to what it can do. A more toxic environment means the body is being forced to fight off higher levels of toxicity, and in an increasing number of instances, it’s losing the battle.

Supplemental detoxification rids the body of toxic substances in order to repair organ and cellular damage. When done properly and safely, there is a range of positive health benefits detox can provide, including:

NOT ALL DETOXES ARE CREATED EQUAL

There are two different types of detox: downstream and upstream.

Downstream detoxes are the more mainstream detoxes: juice cleanses, bone broth diets, and water only fasting. These detoxes target and flush out toxins in specific areas of the body like the colon, kidneys, gut or liver. The popularization of these as a dieting strategy and the lack of information on how to safely detox has led to detoxification getting a bad rap.

Aggressive, quick fix detoxes often leave people feeling worse because often times they don’t have proper drainage support. Without supporting the organs and tissues (like the liver, gallbladder, kidney, bladder, and lymphatics) that orchestrate the removal of toxic substances, the toxins remain mobilized in the body. When done in isolation, without the proper support, or too early in a health or healing regimen, downstream detox can lead to detrimental health effects.

Upstream detox is a detoxification process targeting toxic substances in the cells. This more holistic approach is critical to overcoming chronic illness and symptoms brought on by exposure to chemical and environmental toxins, along with emotional traumas.

THE REAL CELLULAR HEALING DIFFERENCE

The only detox that can stand up to today’s toxins is a systemic detoxification process that gets to the source of where toxicity resides in the body. The Real Cellular Healing process works system by system to open up and repair pathways to the cell upstream while keeping the downstream pathways free of toxins.

Properly detoxifying the body is a complicated process and the use of supplements and binders are required to do it safely and effectively. As toxins are released, binders are incorporated to ensure the toxins are completely removed from the body. The ultimate goal here is to restore cellular function by providing the body with the nutrients and support it needs at key times.

YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU EAT, YOU ARE WHAT YOUR CELLS ABSORB

While Real Cellular Healing detoxifies the body, it’s important to identify sources of toxins in your everyday environment and take steps to reduce or eliminate your exposure. There are 4 primary sources of toxicity in the environment:

  • Most common types of biotoxins are mold, Lyme and parasites. Toxic mold can be found in homes, schools, workplaces even cars. Lyme disease is commonly associated with ticks, however, mosquitoes, fleas, and other insects can carry and transfer Lyme and parasites.
  • Chemicalslike pesticides, herbicides, and VOCs are found in non-organic (and some organic) produce, the water we drink and the air we breathe. A 2016 UNICEF study found that 2 billion children live in areas with pollution levels that exceed the World Health Organization’s minimum annual limit. Exposure to chemical pollution has been directly linked to chronic diseases.
  • Exposure to low levels of Heavy Metals including mercury, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, and lead can lead to organ damage. It’s widely known that there is mercury in seafood but lesser known is its presence in amalgams which include dental fillings. Medications, supplements and breast implants also contain heavy metals.
  • Constant exposure to Radiation from cell phones, microwaves, airport scanners, and dirty electricity and wi-fi are contributing to illnesses.

OUR REAL CELLULAR HEALING PROCESS INCLUDES A MULTI-PHASE, LAYERED APPROACH

Phase 1: Intracellular Prep – Restore cellular energy

We can’t begin to rebuild and repair systems without first establishing a strong foundation for healing. Before we can get to the cells we have to restore mineral and nutrient levels.

Phase 2: Reduce Pathogens and Toxins

This is the step that people I work with spend the most time on. There are various strategies I use with clients depending on their symptoms and diagnosis to improve gut health and reverse damage from exposure to heavy metals.

Often times people come to me after years of suffering from chronic exposure to environmental toxins, it takes a lot of time and a lot of work to reduce those toxins.

Phase 3: Reduce Cellular Inflammation and Heal Cell Membranes

Once the pathogen load is reduced, you can begin to improve hormone and enzyme receptors. Ultimately, this is what allows the cell to full function.

REAL CELLULAR HEALING IS A PIECE OF THE HEALING JOURNEY

When it comes to health and chronic illness there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Many of my clients have been to multiple practitioners and have spent good money – often times thousands of dollars – on treatments and programs and are in the same place they started. My approach is different because unlike a specialist, I treat the whole individual.

Consider working with an integrative health coach if you are in a place where you are ready to commit to the journey of cellular healing. Throughout the process, I work side by side with clients to empower them on the emotional journey, coach them through the challenges and provide them with the tools they need to get the health they want.
